About Wood River Illinois

Situated in Madison County, Wood River is a city with an estimated population of more than 10,500 residents. Lying on the Mississippi River around 15 miles upstream of downtown St. Louis, it’s an integral part of the “Riverbend” area, which encompasses 13 individual communities, home to approximately 200,000 inhabitants.


The city is a dynamic tourism region and attracts many visitors annually. The Aquatic Center is a municipally owned and operated recreational complex that includes a volleyball court, an Olympic size pool, two four-storey water slide as well as diving wells. There are also a number of water events and programs provided here.


Belk Park Golf Course is one of the most popular public golf courses in the St. Louis metropolitan area and brings over 50,000 visitors to Wood River every year through various special events and tournaments. A 13-acre automall complex is currently under development and includes two 25,000 sq ft. facilities that will offer automobile sales and service to the residents of Wood River.


The city is home to a diverse stock of housing options. From historic Sears homes to modern luxury homes and what not, homebuyers can find a home to suit their needs and budget. Four new subdivisions are currently in the planning and development stages. Wood River also has convenient access to entertainment, eateries and shopping, making it a great place to call home.
